Over 44K cops on ground to ensure free & fair zila parishad polls in Punjab

In the wake of the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday said the Punjab Police are fully geared up to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in the state.

Over 44000 police personnel have been deployed under the supervision of gazetted rank officers to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in the state

The zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections in Punjab will be held on December 14 and the results will be declared after the counting of votes on December 17.

Emphasising the need to build a positive environment in the state, DGP Gaurav Yadav directed all police officers to do professional policing and strictly adhere to all aspects of the model code of conduct.

As many as 18,718 polling booths have been set up at 13,395 polling stations, of which, 860 are identified as hyper-sensitive and 3,405 as sensitive.

Special DGP, Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, who had chaired virtual meeting with CPs/SSPs and Range DIGs of the state, said the security had been beefed up across the state.

All CPs/SSPs had already been asked to deploy strong inter-state and inter-district nakas to keep vigil around the anti-social elements and carry out flag marches in their jurisdictions to build confidence among the general public, he said.
