Over 5.8 lakh intoxicating pills seized in Fazilka, 2 held
The Fazilka police on Saturday recovered over 5.8 lakh intoxicating tablets from a house that was being used as a godown by a chemist shop owner, the biggest such seizure in the area so far.
A three-member special investigation team has also been formed to unearth the supply chain.
The police have arrested shop owner Charanpreet Singh and his accomplice Jatinder Singh. The house was located behind a chemist shop at Jhuge Jawar Singh Wala in Jalalabad subdivision.
Fazilka SSP Varinder Singh Brar said they recovered 5,68,200 habit-forming pregabalin capsules and 18,150 tramadol tablets.
The medicines are used to treat body aches and anxiety issues, and can’t be given without a doctor’s prescription.
Their intake in excess leads to intoxication due to which they are used by addicts as a cheaper alternative to drugs.
Brar said the tablets were concealed in boxes kept in the house.
The SSP said the tablets were supplied by factories based in Himachal Pradesh’s Baddi and Delhi.
