Chandigarh, February 6

In separate incidents, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Pakistani teenager and an Afghan national along the International Border in Punjab over the past 24 hours.

Twin incidents

  • BSF troops took a 16-year-old Pakistani national into custody near the border fence at Patti Pallo village in Tarn Taran district; he is reportedly a resident of Kasur in Pakistan
  • An Afghan national was held by troops near Kashi Barman village in the Gurdaspur sector; he was reportedly guided towards the border by an unidentified Pakistani national

On February 5, BSF troops took a 16-year-old Pakistani national in custody near the border fence at Patti Pallo village in Tarn Taran district. On questioning, he revealed that he was a resident of Kasur in Pakistan.

The BSF, police and other agencies carried out the initial questioning, which indicated that the apprehended person was well aware of the surrounding areas. A mobile phone and a Pakistani currency note of Rs 100 denomination were seized from his possession.

After a medical examination, he was handed over to the cops at the Khalra village police station for further investigation.

The BSF approached the Pakistan Rangers and lodged a protest against their alleged failure in restricting the undesired movement of people close to the border, but the Rangers maintained that they did not have any report of anyone missing on their side.

In the morning hours the same day, BSF troops observed a person crossing the International Border and entering the Indian Territory near Kashi Barman village in the Gurdaspur sector. They apprehended him immediately.

The apprehended person revealed that he belonged to Afghanistan and was guided towards the border by an unidentified Pakistani national. Officials from BSF, police and other agencies carried out initial questioning, but he knew only Pashto language.

Nothing objectionable was seized from his possession and after a medical examination in the evening, he was handed over to the cops at the Narot Jaimal Singh police station for further investigation.
