Panel to fix liability for errors in Mahan Kosh

The Punjabi University authorities have decided to form a committee to investigate and fix responsibility for errors in “Mahan Kosh”. The move comes amid a row over an alleged attempt to dispose of the error-ridden copies of “Mahan Kosh” by digging a pit on the varsity campus.

The university also decided to constitute a permanent panel to ensure appropriate disposal of religious books and objects.

Addressing the gathering after the culmination of “path” at a gurdwara at the varsity, Vice-Chancellor Dr Jagdeep Singh said the aim was to fix the responsibility of those responsible for the errors committed in the translation of Mahan Kosh and to avoid the recurrence of any similar situation.

“The first committee will conduct a time-bound probe to ascertain how errors crept in during the compilation of Mahan Kosh. Thereafter, appropriate action will be taken against the persons concerned. The committee for ensuring proper disposal of religious books and objects will comprise of the heads of Guru Gobind Singh Dharam Adhyan Vibhag and Shir Guru Granth Sahib Adhyan Vibhag,” he added.

The error-ridden copies of Mahan Kosh in Hindi had nearly 35,000 grammatical, factual and spelling mistakes, he added.
