Parties woo farmers with catchy slogans

Political parties have coined creative slogans to project themselves as pro-farmers and supporters of the farming community.

For instance, the SAD has given a slogan, “Ikko Naara, Kisan Pyara”. Similarly, the ruling Congress’ slogan is “Kisan Bachao, Punjab Bachao”. Both parties are holding protests and tractor rallies as well. During the recent ‘kisan march’, SAD workers along with their party flags were seen holding green flags, which represent farmers.

Further, AAP has launched a special campaign “Gram Sabha Bulao, Pind Bachao” wherein party leaders are getting resolutions against the farm legislations passed from the gram sabha of each village.

However, farmers have rejected such moves of parties, terming them political theatrics. Farm bodies have repeatedly said they wouldn’t allow any politician to join them.

“Slogans are coined in every public movement, which play a crucial role in making it successful. During the anti-corruption movement led by social activist Anna Hazare, slogans like ‘Anna nahi, yeh aandhi hai, desh ka doosra Gandhi hai”, “Gali gali mein shor hai, desh ke neta chor hain” were coined. These became successful and created a political flutter. Following which, Arvind Kejriwal emerged as a national leader,” said Jagmel Singh, an elderly Muktsar resident.
