Patiala man is Oz councillor

Born and raised in Patiala, Gurdeep Singh Garry, who now lives in Perth, Australia, has become the first ever Municipal Councillor of the north ward of Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale of Perth city of Australia.

Gurdeep Singh (Garry) works with the government on prevention of crime with help of CCTV cameras in the city, his family said.

Sharing the news regarding his election, his elder brother Paramjit Singh, who is a government teacher in Patiala, said, “Gurdeep was born at Partap Nagar of Patiala. He studied here at the Civil Lines School and was a bright student right from the beginning. He completed BSc (Computers) from Khalsa College, Patiala. He also worked for some time at the Amritsar airport but later moved to Australia in 2005.” — TNS
