PAU scientists conduct surveys of cotton fields in Abohar villages

Under the directions from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, the scientists of Farm Advisory Service Centre, Regional Research Centre at Abohar visited Kallarkhera, Jhumianwali, Khubban, Modikheda, Tutwala, Panjawa, Gidderanwali, Bhangarkhera, Achadiki, Diwankhera, Jhotianwali, Bakainwala, Haripura and Taja Patti villages to inspect the Narma cotton crop. Besides conducting a survey, they also addressed cotton-growing farmers in Achadiki and Bhangarkhera.

Acting on the survey report, a crop scientist, Dr Manpreet Singh, advised the farmers to ensure proper fertiliser management and advised about spraying potassium nitrate and magnesium sulphate as per the symptoms.

The district extension specialist, Dr Jagdish Arora, said the Narma cotton crop was in good condition, adding that the pink worm was under control. He advised farmers to remain alert and spray only the PAU-recommended pesticides to break and reduce the life cycle of the pink mite.

Another scientist, Dr Anil Sangwan, appealed to farmers to contact the Farm Advisory Service Centre and Regional Research Centre at Abohar so that Narma cotton cultivation may be saved.
