PAU student shoots national gold, eyes global arena
Gurshaan Singh Dhillon, first year BSc Agriculture student from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is now eyeing his entry into an international arena, after having won medals at the 67th National Shooting Championship.
Gurshaan’s career got a major boost after he won two Gold Medals at the 67th National Shooting Championship in Senior And Junior Categories. The championship was held from December 15, 2024 to January 5, 2025.
“After making a mark in the national field, I am now focusing to enter the international arena. I am working hard to make my place in the international tournament,” said Dhillon.
When asked what was his goal as a sportsman, Dhillon said for every sportsperson, Olympics is the Mecca of sports. “Every sportsperson’s dream is to first get selected and then win a medal in the Olympics, and I am no exception. My only focus right now is to work hard and keep working till I represent India at the Olympics,” he said.
Dhillon’s rendezvous with the guns started early in his life. “My maternal cousin was into shooting and seeing him, many of us cousins also joined this sport. As I started learning the sport, I got more and more involved. I started shooting way back in school, when I was just 13 years old in 2018. I won got my first Gold Medals In Both District And State Championships In 2019,” said Dhillon proudly, a former student of St Joseph’s Convent School, Ferozepur.
Dhillon is studying Agriculture at PAU, and feels that both these fields need a lot of improvement.
Few feathers in Dhillon’s cap include, National Level Shotgun Shooter In Trap And Double Trap, Played 6 Nationals And 13 National Level Tournaments Till Date, Got A Silver And A Gold Medal In 65 The National Shooting Championship In 2022 In Double Trap Event, A Gold Medal In 66th National Shooting Championship In 2023 In Double Trap, Two Gold Medals In 67th National Shooting Championship In Senior And Junior Category In 2024.
“Shooting is as much about mental toughness as it is about physical skill. Do regular exercises that improve core strength, stability, and endurance. Practice meditation or visualization techniques that help you to enhance focus and reduce competition anxiety,” says Dhillon while giving tips to budding shooters while signing off.
