Students associated with various organisations, under the banner of ‘Sanjha Vidyarthi Morcha’ held a protest on the campus of the Punjabi University, here on Wednesday, demanding a special grant and rollback of the orders to increase the fee. They installed flex boards near the university and said they would not allow the Congress leaders to enter the campus.

The activists associated with the SFI, AISF, PSU and DSO installed posters with pictures of various leaders, including Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, PCC Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, MP Preneet Kaur, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Higher Education Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Congress leader Harinder Pal Singh (Harry Mann), and said they could not enter the campus.

They also demanded to roll back the decision to implement GST on educational services.

Vikram Singh Baghi, a student activist said, “We started a march from the university library, went to the office of the VC and ended the protest near the entry gates of the campus.”

The students said the university should stop increasing the fee for every course, and the state government should provide grants. “The state had announced a grant of Rs 90 crore for the university, but the entire amount has not been provided yet,” they said.
