PCMS doctors defer proposed strike till Feb 23
The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMA) has deferred its call for resuming its agitation in support of its demands till February 23. The association had earlier said it would go on a state-wide strike from February 20.
A statement issued by the PCMSA on Sunday said detailed and fruitful deliberations were held between senior functionaries of the Punjab Health Department and PCMSA representatives on January 17, where the proposals drafted by the Health Department were discussed in detail and endorsed by the PCMSA.
As part of the talks, the PCMSA was apprised that the required notifications fulfilling their demands would be issued expeditiously, possibly in the next week, the statement added.
Restoration of the dynamic assured career progression (DACP) scheme for doctors, making up the large deficiency of medical officers, specialists and paramedics and provision of adequate security at health centres were among their key demands.
In September 2024, members of the PCMSA had suspended medical services, except emergency cases and court matters, at hospitals and healthcare centres across the state, following which the government had agreed to accept some of their demands. Since the government was still to issue notifications in that regard, the PCMSA had decided to resume its agitation.
