People taking to superstition for quick visa, high IELTS score

If you think that only youngsters are under pressure to score high in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to fly abroad, you are wrong. Even their parents and siblings are taking to superstition to help aspirants catch the flight.

From offering replicas of airplanes at a gurdwara, to performing havans and visit to gaushalas, the near and dear ones go to any extent to ‘help’ the aspirant. Talking to The Tribune, some priests said earlier youngsters used to visit temples to seek blessings for good marks in their annual exams and government jobs, but these days they come only for good score in IELTS and quick visa.

“The number of youngsters having foreign dreams have increased these days and a majority of them want to fly with the help of hymns and the God without doing mandatory hard work. Many come for special havan. Since meditation and blessings of god are necessary, I have been regularly counselling them to focus on hard work,” said Brijesh Dixit, a local priest.

Similarly, residents have been thronging Handiaya village gurdwara in Barnala to offer replicas of airplanes as they believe that it would help them getting a visa.

Many parents are taking to weird superstitious as once locals caught an engineer, who was trying to burn a photocopy of rejected visa application of his son in local chowk as advised by a priest.
