The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, on Tuesday conducted the post-mortem of gangster Jaipal Singh Bhullar after the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The High Court on Monday had directed PGIMER to constitute a board and expeditiously conduct the second post-mortem of Bhullar. The direction by Justice Avneesh Jhingan of the High Court came on a petition filed by Bhullar’s father Bhupinder Singh.
Bhullar and another person were killed in an encounter with a special task force of the West Bengal Police in Kolkata. Jaipal’s father and other relatives had subsequently claimed they spotted some “unusual marks” on the body.
During the day, Bhullar’s father brought his body himself to PGIMER as he was not ready to hand it over to the police. Dr YS Bansal from the Department of Forensic Science, PGIMER, said a team of doctors had conducted the post-mortem earlier in the day and the report was being compiled, which would be handed over to the family of the deceased.
