Having a 30-acre campus, the project will cost around Rs 800 crore. Oberoi has already contributed Rs 200 crore from his personal resources for the project.

The initiative, being implemented through the Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust and the Sunny Oberoi Foundation, is expected to transform the education landscape of the region.

Vice-Chancellor Sarabjindar Singh said the institution had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Punjab State Open University. Currently operating from an alternative site, the university has admitted 300 students in its inaugural academic session.

“Education will be absolutely free of cost, without any caste or community reservations. The only condition is that students must belong to the economically weaker sections. Hostel facilities and meals will also be provided free,” he said.
