For women stranded at night due to non availability of safe transport, the Punjab Police has provided the facility of dedicated PCR vans for pick-up and drop on request in the Commissionerates at Mohali, Patiala and Bathinda, as well as other major towns. To avail the facility, available between 9 pm and 6 am, women in need are required to call 100, 112 or 181. To give a further sense of security to women, at least one woman police officer is on duty in the dedicated PCR Van.

SMS updates onstatus of complaint

In order to bring more transparency and efficiency in its services, Punjab Police has provided the facility of SMS alert on mobiles of complainants updating them on their status. The updates include registration of FIR with details of investigating officer (IO) assigned, arrest of accused, change of IO and submission of challan/final report.

One village, oneofficer & womenhelpdesks

A police officer in the rank of ASI / HC / constable is being designated to each of the 12,700 villages of the state. The Village Police Officer would visit the village once every week to understand the issues and concerns of the community and to gather information about suspected criminal activity. In addition, Women Helpdesks, manned by women officer, are being set up in each of the state's 406 police stations. The names of village police officers and woman police officers would be displayed on the Punjab Police website along with their ranks and phone numbers.

Universal coverageunder Dial 112

To speed up dispatch of police teams on distress calls, the Punjab Police has strengthened the Dial 112 network across the state. For this a state-level Centralised Call Taking Centre (CCTC) has been set up in SAS Nagar with facility of 48 workstations. A network of 26 district co-ordination centres has also been established. All calls to 112 from across the state are being received at the CCTC, and are further rerouted to the concerned dispatch centre from among the 12 located  in Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Bathinda, Sangrur and Patiala.
