Chandigarh, April 10

In the national ranking of the power sector, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has improved its overall performance in 2022-23 over its performance in 2021-22. Last year, Punjab was lagging behind in the national ranking but today, in the annual national rating released by the Union Energy Minister RK Singh, Punjab has made a comeback.

Last year, Powercom received B grade which has been improved to A grade. In the national ranking, Powercom has now climbed to the 11th position, while last year it was at the 16th position.

The Union Power Minister had even written a letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann last year and advised the government to improve the system of billing and reduce transmission and distribution losses, besides giving the subsidy to PSPCL in advance. In 2022-23, the government released the entire amount of power subsidy to the PSPCL on time.

Last year’s report, where Punjab’s performance had fallen, was based on the performance of the state power utility during the last year of the previous Congress government rule during 2021-22. The performance of 51 public and private sector power companies across the country were examined by the Union Ministry of Power before the report was released.

The national ranking is based on how much the state spends for producing one unit of power and how much of it is collected from consumers.
