The state government is set to develop Urban Estate Phase-3 near Jalandhar Cantonment for which it will roll out a 1000-acre land pooling scheme.

Officials of the Jalandhar Development Authority (JDA) have already finalised a plan in this regard. The government will get land pooled from six villages, including Kukkad Pind, Rehmanpur, Alipur, Nangal Karar Khan, Kotla Kalan and Kotla Khurd. Reports about the project have led to concerns among residents of these villages as they are unsure if the scheme would benefit them in any way.

The SDM, Jalandhar-1, who shall be the land acquisition officer, has been asked to start checking the records of the six villages, hold meetings with the patwaris and finalise a draft notification for the purpose. “Soon, the officials will hold meetings with farmers to discuss the land pooling scheme and build a consensus that it will be in their favour. Once the initial ground work is done, the SDM will issue a notification,” said a JDA official.

Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh said, “I have got several calls from my constituents asking me about the nitty-gritties of the scheme. I need to sit down with some officials and study the plan.”

Under the land pooling policy applicable to Mohali, for every acre given for land bank, the farmer/owner would get a 1,000 sq yard residential plot and a commercial site of 200 sq yards in residential sector.

Jalandhar already has two Urban Estates. The second one came about 25 years ago. The planning for Phase 3 was earlier done during the SAD-BJP regime. A master plan too had been finalised then for areas between Paragpur and Pholariwal towards the Nakodar Road side but it could not materialise due to a poor response of farmers.
