PM Modi likely to visit flood-ravaged Punjab on September 9

Prime minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit flood-ravaged Punjab on September 9 and conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas.

Sources told the Tribune that Modi will proceed for his tour of flood-hit regions of northern India on Tuesday after casting his vote in the Vice-Presidential election.

Modi will aerially take stock of areas around Amritsar and Ferozepur and assess the damages along the border belt where fences and border posts have also been damaged apart from vast tracts of farmlands and standing crops, including paddy and sugarcane.

Central teams are already in Punjab to make assessment of damages.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also visited Punjab this week and toured the flood-affected areas.

Modi will meet Punjab Government ministers and officials during his visit to the state.
