Police, BSF seize 13 kg heroin, five arrested

The Amritsar rural police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have confiscated a total of 13 kg of heroin and a revolver in separate incidents in the past 24 hours.

The police also arrested five persons — Malkeet Singh, Baljinder Singh, Gurbhej Singh, Franko Masih and Arsh Masih — in this connection.

Amritsar rural police chief Charanjit Singh said Gurbhej Singh was arrested with 3-kg heroin following specific intelligence inputs that he was involved in drug trafficking. Gurbhej, who had recently received a drug consignment, was going to deliver it to his unknown accomplice. A police patrolling team intercepted him on the Chak Allah Baksh-Rania border village road. He was carrying black polythene containing the contraband.

In another operation, the Lopoke police have arrested Malkeet Singh and Baljinder Singh and recovered 2-kg heroin from them.

Likewise, the Gharinda police seized 1.498 kg of heroin from the house of Jagroop Singh. The police had got a tip-off that he was involved in drug smuggling. In another incident, the Jandiala police confiscated 3.5 kg of heroin from a car during a search operation.
