Abohar, July 31
The police today claimed to have busted a gang of drug smugglers and seized 2 kg of heroin and a mobile phone in Naggi village. They said two persons, including a child molester from a village in Fazilka district involved with the gang, were caught. The police said three smugglers, including a woman and her son, were caught in Fazilka earlier.
Superintendent of Police Gaurav Yadav said on July 19, the team of Sub-Inspector Rakesh Sankhla arrested Satpal Singh alias Pali (26) of Chak village and Angrej Singh (32) of Khat Lubana village. He said the police team seized a car, which was used for smuggling, from the possession of Satpal Singh. He said 4.20 lakh in drug money was seized from the possession of Angrej Singh.
It surfaced that on July 19, Pakistani smugglers’ drones made four rounds and dropped packets of 2 kg of heroin in each sortie. Out of this, smugglers from Punjab managed to take away a total of 6 kg. Of them, three, including a woman and her son, were caught in Fazilka district the next day.
The car was registered in the name of the brother of the arrested, Satpal Singh.
The police said on July 19, the child molester and two other youths from Fazilka had gone to collect heroin packets dropped by the Pakistani drone. Satpal and a woman who had come with her son kept waiting near the bus stand in Srikaranpur to collect drugs and fled with some packets of heroin brought by the child molester and the two youths.
The police said the investigation indicated that 6 kg of heroin dropped in three rounds fell into the hands of the smugglers. When the drone took the fourth round and dropped two more packets, the farmers working in the nearby fields got wind of it. When they raised an alarm, the child molester and two other youths ran away in a hurry without taking the packet of 2 kg of heroin. The police said the mobile phone of a suspect was left behind.
