German had managed to escape when Rohit was arrested on Tuesday. Bagga had introduced German and Rohit to Dony Bal. The police have got three-day remand of Rohit.

Rohit and German had shot at Baldev Singh, sarpanch and spare parts shop owner at Mehta, on February 13 in an extortion bid. Apart from Baldev Singh, customer Amanbir Singh was also injured in the firing.

Baldev told the police that he was working outside his shop while Amanbir and Satnam Singh were standing near him when two bike-borne persons whose faces were covered fired five bullets at him on February 13. Baldev and Amanbir were injured in the firing. Later, the miscreants fled from the spot.

According to an initial probe, Baldev had received extortion calls from foreign-based gangster Mann Ghanshampuria of the Dony Bal group around three months ago.

Yesterday, the CIA Staff of the Amritsar Rural police got a tip-off that the suspects were present in the Mehta area. The police arrested Rohit while German managed to run away. During preliminary interrogation, he told the police that the weapon used in the crime had been hidden in the Mehta area.

A police team took him to the spot where he pushed away the policemen and fired at them with the same weapon. The police team responded in self-defence, leaving Rohit injured. He has been admitted to a hospital.
