Police, MC demolish encroached property of brothers involved in drug trade in Moga
The police and administration continue their zero-tolerance policy against illegal constructions and properties acquired or used by drug smugglers
Taking action against drug traffickers and illegal encroachments, the Moga police, in coordination with the Moga Municipal Corporation, on Friday demolished the house of two brothers involved in the drug trade. The property — on Lal Singh Road in Moga — was found to have been illegally constructed and belonged to brothers Arun and Rahul, who, along with their family, had been occupying the premises.
According to the police, both brothers have a serious criminal background, with eight cases registered against them, including three under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, involving commercial quantities of narcotics. One of the accused is currently lodged in jail.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Gandhi, who was present at the site, said that the demolition drive was part of a sustained campaign against illegal encroachments linked to criminal elements. “The Moga Municipal Corporation is carrying out a drive against illegal encroachments on Lal Singh road today. Adequate security arrangements have been made by the police to ensure there is no law and order problem and that the corporation’s work proceeds smoothly.”
The SSP confirmed that the house demolished on Thursday was among several properties identified as belonging to individuals involved in organised drug trafficking. He added that the Moga police have already conducted two similar demolition operations in the same neighbourhood, and that, in coordination with the district administration, they have provided police support for the demolition of four more houses in Dolewala village, which has been recognised as a drug hotspot.
SSP Gandhi said that the police and administration will continue their zero-tolerance policy against illegal constructions and properties acquired or used by drug smugglers. He reiterated that the ongoing campaign aims to dismantle the infrastructure of drug trade and send a clear message that those engaged in such illicit activities will face strict legal and administrative consequences.
