The Batala police have approached Interpol to get a Red Corner Notice issued against US-based gangster Happy Passia, allegedly behind a string of recent bomb blasts in the state. A Red Corner Notice is a request to law enforcing agencies across the globe to arrest a person pending extradition, surrender or a similar action. Interpol is a global police agency that helps countries to work together to fight crime.

The move came in the wake of a grenade blast at the home of a Punjab Police constable at Raimal village here. Happy Passia had claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post.

Constable Jatinder Singh was the part of a police team that had raided the gangster’s house at Jatta Passia village in the Ramdas police station area a few months ago.

SSP Suhail Qasim Mir said the police was on the lookout for two gangsters who had lobbed the grenade at the constable’s house. The police officer said the police have approached Interpol through the Bureau of Investigation and the CBI. “It is only a matter of time before a Red Corner Notice is issued against him,” said the SSP.

Meanwhile, Gurdaspur Lok Sabha MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said the police should have initiated the process much earlier. “I would like to know what stopped the police to go in for a Red Corner Notice earlier when the gangster had just started his nefarious activities,” he said.
