Political slugfest over attack on Thapar

Ludhiana, July 6

The brutal attack on Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar by three Nihangs in Ludhiana has led to a political slugfest, with opposition leaders asking Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to step down over “poor” law and order.

While condemning the incident on X, MoS Ravneet Bittu said, “AAP has made a mockery of law and order. Officers are busy pleasing AAP leaders instead of doing their job.”

BJP state chief Sunil Jakhar said, “This incident has proved that the Mann government has failed to maintain peace in the state. Strict action should be taken against the culprits behind the murderous attack.”

Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring tweeted, “The state government has completely failed in maintaining peace. Mischievous elements have become highly motivated.”

Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa said, “Peace in Punjab returned after endless sacrifices. No one should be allowed to spoil the atmosphere. In Punjab, people of all religions live together. There are external forces at play who want to disturb Punjab’s peace once again. The Chief Minister should stop theatrics and focus on law and order.”

SAD chief Sukhbir Badal also took to X and tweeted, “The frequency of such incidents has increased under the AAP government. Chief Minister Mann is oblivious to the situation. Punjab is heading towards jungle raj with extortions and targeted killings.”

AAP MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney, who condemnend the attack, said the Shiv Sena leader should have exercised restraint while celebrating the anniversary of Operation Blue Star. He tweeted, “We strongly condemn violence against any individual, but Sandeep Thapar should have used some restraint not to hurt Sikhs’ sentiments.”
