Post-Jalandhar AAP MLA’s arrest over graft, party appoints Kohli new halqa in-charge
Days after the Vigilance Bureau arrested Jalandhar AAP (Central) MLA Raman Arora in an alleged corruption and extortion case, senior party leadership today appointed industrialist Nitin Kohli as a halqa in-charge of the segment.
Kohli was inducted into party by AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia and state president Aman Arora. While Raman Arora had broken the public’s trust, Kohli enjoyed a squeaky-clean image, they said.
Responding to a query on whether Raman Arora would be asked to resign, the state party chief said, “We have changed the halqa in-charge, do you still have any doubts?”
Sisodia said, “Today AAP welcomes a renowned industrialist who has been an active supporter of the party since long. Nitin Kohli has been appointed halqa in-charge by the party’s senior leadership.”
He said, “One of our own party’s MLAs broke the trust of the public. The people of Punjab placed their faith in AAP MLAs and AAP national convenor Kejriwal. The government had to act as the MLA didn’t followed the principles laid down by Kejriwal and CM Bhagwant Mann.” “AAP is the only party, which doesn’t spare anyone who is wrong. The police, vigilance anti-corruption agencies have full freedom to act,” added Sisodia.
Aman Arora said, “Nitin Kohli is known for his clean image. When intentions and policies are clean, no room is left for error. He will infuse fresh energy into the party.”
When asked whether Raman Arora would continue be part of AAP, the state party chief said, “When the government came to know about the misdeeds of the MLA, an FIR was registered against him. Kohli is the new halqa in-charge of Jalandhar (Central) segment.”
Kohli said, “As an industrialist, I witnessed AAP’s increasing inclination towards industry. Several personalities have joined AAP in the past. They are doing a lot to ensure industrial growth in the state.”
