Chandigarh, December 30
The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Monday declared the results of the elections to the state unit, which were held from December 5 to December 7. The IYC had ordered repolling at several booths in Nabha, Dera Baba Nanak and Dinanagar, while withholding declaration of the results on the complaints of alleged rigging and misbehaviour.
After repolling on Sunday, the IYC declared Barinder Dhillon as president of the Punjab Youth Congress.
Though Dhillon’s vote count in repolling decreased from 29,000 to 28,666, he still won. He is former SOPU president and Ropar district Congress president.
Apart from the president’s post, polling was also held over three days for electing four vice-presidents, 11 general secretaries and 28 district presidents.
Others candidates in the race for the president’s post were Dhanwant Singh Jimmy, Iqbal Singh Grewal, Jaswinder, Parvinder Lapran, Vaneshwar Khera (Bunny) and Daman Bajwa.
The IYC, while declaring the results of general secretaries, withheld the result of Mohit Mohindra, son of Cabinet Minister Brahm Mohindra, and Kiranpreet Pahra. They had secured first and second position, but their result had been withheld due to complaints.
Other successful candidates in the category of general secretaries include Akash Deep Majithia and Dilraj Sarkaria, a nephew of Cabinet Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria. Amit Bawa has been elected general secretary in the OBC category.
