Power, water supply restored in Ajnala areas
Power supply to 84 villages of Ajnala, which had been disrupted since the flood inundated the area, was restored today while relief efforts continued unabated in the Ajnala subdivision.
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney credited this to PWD staff who worked day and night to restore the power supply.
Anishdip Singh, Executive Engineer of the PSPCL, said the floodwater affected the power stations in Ramdass and Gaggomahal, causing disruption in supply to 84 villages. He said the power was yet to be restored at Ghonewal village and Deras, as water had not receded yet.
Nitin Kalia, Executive Engineer of the Water Supply and Sanitation, said the supply of potable water had been restored after thorough cleaning and chlorination. As many as 52 power supply schemes were damaged during the flood.
The DC said they managed to telephonically connect about 18,000 pensioners, who are recipients of widow, old age and handicap pensions and are residing in the flood-hit areas. Of them, 1,200 have provided ration kits and medicines for the flood-affected people.
All five MPs of the AAP have announced a grant of around Rs 1.36 crore for relief. The DC said the grant would help in the procurement of fogging machines, water tankers, stainless steel sheets, gensets and other necessary items.
