Muktsar, July 12
Claiming that a senior Executive Engineer posted at Malout was recently transferred to the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) for not fulfilling an illegal demand of a senior politician in the state government, the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Engineers’ Association has stopped checking of power pilferage and dues collection work in Muktsar and Bathinda districts.
Further, the association has decided not to take any WhatsApp call in future, saying that the “representatives of the present government usually pressure them to work against the department’s rules” through these calls.
An office-bearer of the association said a team of the PSPCL had recently conducted a raid at a village in the Abul Khurana subdivision and caught a man stealing power through a ‘kundi’ (illegal) connection. “A minister later told the senior Executive Engineer Rohit Monga not to penalise the power pilferer, who however showed his inability to do such a work by saying that the entry had been made in the duty register. Later, he was transferred,” said an office-bearer of the association.
