Moga, June 30

A woman was crushed to death and her son seriously injured on Thursday as the motorcycle they were riding collided with a bus at Samalsar village in Baghapurana sub-division of Moga.

The bus belongs to Orbit Aviations Private Limited.

Sukhdeep Kaur, 42, a resident of Dhurkot village in Faridkot, was rushed to the government hospital at Kotkapura where the doctors declared her brought dead.

Her son, Jashanpreet Singh, was referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital at Faridkot. He was later shifted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital at Ludhiana, the doctors said.

Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that after meeting their relatives at Cheeda village, the woman and her son were returning to their native Dhurkot village on the motorcycle when the bus hit them.

The driver of the bus, Harjinder Singh, a resident of Badian village in Muktsar, fled the scene after the accident.

A case under Sections 304-A, 338, 279 and 427 of the IPC has been registered against driver Harjinder at the Samalsar police station.

Investigating officer Basant Singh said Harjinder was driving the bus rashly that led to the accident. He said they would arrest him soon.
