Production of sturdier Vande Bharat coaches starts
The Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, has started production of Vande Bharat coaches.
SS Mishra, General Manager, Rail Coach Factory, said, “It is a significant step in expanding India’s fleet of semi-high-speed trains, aimed at improving passenger comfort, train speed and safety.”
Last year, the RCF had manufactured one rake of Vande Metro for short-distance intercity rail services. The new Vande Bharat coaches would have better seating, improved acceleration, onboard entertainment and enhanced safety features.
“The rakes being developed at the RCF will have crashworthy design of its underframe. The first Vande Bharat train at the RCF will have 20 coaches and will have chair car seating,” said the RCF
officials.
Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Bittu, too, had visited the RCF six months ago when the first rake of 16 coaches of Vande Metro were being manufactured.
He had then announced that the production of Vande Bharat coaches would start by the end of the financial year.
