The Abohar Municipal Corporation (MC) has launched project ‘Kadam’ through a webinar, in which MC Commissioner Abhijeet Kaplish, ‘Apna Abohar, Apni Abha’ convener Sandeep Jakhar, traffic expert Navdeep Asija and MC Superintending Engineer Sandeep Gupta participated. The project has been prepared under the ‘Chokho Abohar’ initiative announced earlier by the Chief Minister. The word ‘chokho’ means beautiful.

Kaplish said the blueprint of the project had been prepared by a team of traffic experts. The aim is to improve roads and streamline the traffic system here with focus on convenience to pedestrians. The work has been divided into three parts: Malout Chowk, Bus Stand Road and Circular Road.

Under ‘Kadam’, roads will be beautified by utilising unused space. The work will be completed in the next five months.

Jakhar said the state had sanctioned Rs 7.5 crore for the project. Asija said the project was designed in a way that would not affect the shopkeepers, but increase their business. No additional land would be taken from anyone and no tree would be uprooted, said the traffic expert.

Gupta said the parking capacity of the city would be increased three times and roads would not be dug repeatedly to lay underground pipes and wires. A separate strip would be reserved for this purpose, he said.
