Properties of 3 women drug peddlers razed in Muktsar district

As part of its anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, a joint team of the district administration and police on Tuesday demolished three illegally constructed houses belonging to three alleged drug peddlers, all women, at Jhorar village here.

Notably, Jhorar village, located about 13-km from Malout town, is infamous for drug-related activities.

The village residents said that over 50 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act in this village alone over the past five years.

A large number of police personnel, including Muktsar SSP Akhil Chaudhary and ADC (D) Surinder Singh Dhillon, were present at the spot.

The SSP said, “Multiple FIRs under the NDPS Act were registered against these three hardened drug traffickers. They had built these structures using drug money. The Block Development and Panchayats Officer (BDPO) had sought police assistance to demolish the properties of these drug peddlers.”

He added that the drug peddlers, namely Rani, was facing eight cases under the NDPS Act; Charanjit Kaur was facing six cases; and Satto was facing five cases.

Notably, this is the third such demolition drive in the district. Earlier, a residence was demolished at Madrassa village on March 12 this year. Furthermore, two buildings were demolished on the outskirts of Gidderbaha town on May 8.
