PSPCL chief Sran retires, Sinha gets additional charge
The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is all set to get a new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) as current chief Baldev Singh Sran retired on Thursday on attaining the age of 65 years.
With a regular CMD “expected to be appointed soon”, the state government has ordered 1996-batch IAS officer Ajoy Kumar Sinha, who also holds the charge of Principal Secretary (Power), to take additional charge as PSPCL CMD.
Despite the change in governments, Saran got extensions keeping in view his expertise in handling power-related issues. The last one-year extension he got was in February 2024 and the tenure ended on Thursday.
Sources said around 25 persons had already applied for the post of PSPCL CMD, which was advertised in October last year.
“The government is expected to take a final call on the appointment of a new CMD after screening by the selection committee headed by the Punjab Chief Secretary,” said an official. “Some serving officers and retired former engineers are vying for the top post,” he added.
