Punjab Advocate General Anmol Rattan Sidhu claims attack while travelling on Shatabdi Express, RPF begins probe

RPF inspector said it did not seem to be an intentional or targeted attack as such stone pelting incidents have been reported several times

Advocate General of Punjab, Anmol Rattan Sidhu, who was travelling on Shatabdi Express on Tuesday, escaped unhurt in a stone pelting incident that occured between Babarpur and Gharaunda railway station on Delhi-Chandigarh railway-line.

A team of RPF from Panipat rushed to the spot after getting information about the incident and began its probe into the incident.

Talking to The Tribune correspondent, Sidhu said “It looked like a planned attack on me, particularly, when I was travelling back after a hearing in the Supreme Court on the case concerning gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Going by incidents of gang wars, I have serious apprehensions on the gangsters attempting to silence all voices they felt spoke against them”.

He further said “Police reached the spot after the incident and took my version. I expect a thorough probe.”

Shrawan Kumar, Inspector, RPF Panipat said that the incident took place between Babarpur and Gharaunda railway station.

A team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been sent to visit the incident site which is around 25 kilometer away from Panipat towards Karnal.

Prima facie, stone pelting incident did not seem to be an intentional or targeted attack, he added. Such incidents of stone pelting have been reported several times, he added.

It is very unfortunate that Punjab Advocate General was sitting in the coach at which stones were pelted, he said.

The glass of Shatabdi Express is of double layer and the outer layer was broken after it was stoned while the internal layer was completely intact, Inspector Shrawan said.

The case would be registered under the sections of Railway Act on the basis of the team’s report, the RPF Inspector maintained.
