Punjab Agro’s export push will promote tomato, red chilli farming: Abohar DC
Abohar, July 18
The plan to export red chilli paste from the Alamgarh, Abohar-based Punjab Agro plant, which was set up in 2004, has been making much headway since the product entered the Mexico market in 2022. The machinery for the processing of the chilli paste was imported from Italy and Poland.
The Deputy Commissioner, Dr Senu Duggal, visited the factory and expressed optimism about the project. She stated that the project would revolutionise the farming sector in the district. She urged farmers to come forward and join hands with Punjab Agro to cultivate tomatoes and red chilies, which would not only increase their income but also contribute to the state’s economy.
Punjab Agro officials said the factory had the capacity to process 6,000 MT of tomatoes and 30 MT of red chilies daily. They said Punjab Agro was purchasing red chilies from farmers at Rs 28/kg, and the produce was being exported to various countries.
Plant Head Subhash Choudhary and Manager Gurpreet Singh assured farmers of constant support, from sowing to marketing, and urged them to contact Punjab Agro for assistance.
The DC said the initiative was expected to bring a significant change in the lives of farmers in the region, and the district administration was committed to providing all necessary support to make this project a success.
