Punjab Budget: All families to get Rs 10 lakh health cover
The Punjab Government has extended the facility of cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh per annum at all public and private hospitals to all
65 lakh families under its flagship Mukh Mantri Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana.
Till now, 29 lakh families were being covered under the scheme, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema told the Assembly during his Budget speech on Wednesday. Cheema said currently 45 lakh families in the state were being covered under health insurance plans, including 16 lakh households enrolled under the Centre’s flagship Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
Beneficiaries are extended a cover of Rs 5 lakh under the Central plan. He said those covered under the state plan will be given a “Sehat Card” allowing them cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh in all government and private hospitals across Punjab.
The Finance Minister said an allocation of Rs 5,598 crore had been made for health services, a 10 per cent increase over the previous financial year.
Cheema said around 70,000 people across the state availed of services provided at affordable Aam Aadmi Clinics.
A provision of Rs 10 crore has been made for immediate relief to accident victims under the Farishtey Scheme that aims to lower the number of injuries and deaths resulting from road accidents by ensuring prompt and accessible medical care.
