The decision to denotify the policy was taken in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann here this afternoon. The government has claimed that the decision has been taken in the interests of the farmers.

It may be mentioned that the state government, through the policy brought in June this year, wanted to acquire 65,533 acres of land, of which 46,861 acres were to be acquired through land pooling in Ludhiana alone. This led to widespread protests by farmers and farmer unions and all Opposition parties.

Last week, the policy was also stayed citing many procedural lacunae.

Even the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture headed by Charanjit Singh Channi directed the government to furnish details of the withdrawal of the notification.
