The Punjab Congress on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of misusing Rs 12,000 crore allocated under the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).

Demanding accountability from the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government over the current status of the SDRF, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring alleged that the state government diverted the funds for other uses, leaving flood-affected victims in utter despair.

He asserted that a criminal case should be registered against the government for allegedly misappropriating these funds.

Warring stated that the Rs 12,000 crore SDRF had been accumulated over the years and was available with the state government. He accused both the Narendra Modi-led Central Government and the AAP of misleading the people of Punjab.

“Not only have the funds been usurped, but reckless and deep mining in the rivers has also altered their natural course, resulting in the inundation of several acres of agricultural land,” he alleged.

Warring also called for a judicial inquiry to determine who was responsible for holding back water in the dams and then suddenly releasing it, despite clear weather predictions of heavy rain.
