Punjab Police chief Gaurav Yadav empanelled for DG post at Centre
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav has been empanelled for the post of Director-General of a central security force/agency. He is the only officer from the 1992 batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre officers.
Yadav had previously superseded a number of IPS officers in Punjab for the post of DGP Punjab.
With this fresh development, he has surpassed many officers for top positions in the state and Central Government. This also consolidates his position as the head of the Punjab Police force.
Yadav’s appointment as DGP Punjab was made without going through the process of empanelment by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Monday cleared the empanelment of five IPS officers for holding top positions at the Centre.
The officers empanelled for holding DG and DG equivalent posts in the Central Government are Nuzhat Hassan (IPS: 1991: AGMUT) and Gaurav Yadav (IPS: 1992: PB), while those empanelled for holding DG equivalent posts are Ch. D. Tirumala Rao (IPS: 1989: AP), Aditya Misra (IPS: 1989: UP) and Idashisha Nongrang (IPS: 1992: MN).
