Ex-CM likely to have poll pact with BJP

Capt Amarinder’s party will ultimately be supported by the BJP. He has also met Home Minister Amit Shah. It is possible they may form an alliance before the 2022 elections.

To assess the core issues, especially the farmers’ agitation, the former CM is reportedly also ascertaining his popularity in different pockets of Punjab. An announcement on the formation of new a political outfit by the former CM was expected within a fortnight.

The former CM has already clarified he would quit the Congress, but not join the BJP. He had also said he would field a strong candidate in the state elections next year against Sidhu, whose opposition led to his ouster. There are indications that former CM, after being instrumental in solving the farmers agitation, could go for a post-poll alliance with the BJP.
