Punjab floods: CM Bhagwant Mann meets Amit Shah, seeks relief package from Centre

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Capital to brief him on the devastating impact of recent floods in the state, which have claimed nearly 60 lives. After the meeting, Mann stated that damages have been estimated at Rs 13,800 crore, potentially rising to Rs 20,000 crore.

“So far, damages have been estimated at Rs 13,800 crore, but this figure could rise, potentially reaching Rs 20,000 crore. I explained the entire flood situation in Punjab. Over 2,300 villages have been submerged, around five lakh people have been rendered homeless, 3,200 schools have been damaged, and 8,500 km roads are now debris-filled. Around 60 lives have been lost, nearly 2,500 bridges and culverts have been affected, and even school textbooks of young children have been washed away. We will have to postpone semesters as books are unavailable and exams cannot be conducted,” he said.

Amit Shah assured Mann of additional assistance, and Mann emphasised Punjab’s historical support for the nation during crises, requesting reciprocal support. Mann is reportedly seeking a special flood relief package from the Centre.
