Punjab Government revokes suspension of ADGP SPS Parmar, SSP Varinder Singh Brar
The Punjab Government on Wednesday revoked the suspension orders of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) SPS Parmar and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varinder Singh Brar with immediate effect. Separate orders to this effect were issued by the State Home Department.
ADGP Parmar was suspended earlier this year in connection with the high-profile driving licence scam while he was serving as the director of the Vigilance Bureau. The scam involved manipulation of automated driving test systems, where old video footage was allegedly reused to falsely certify new applicants. Despite having access to evidence, the Vigilance Bureau under Parmar’s leadership was accused of delaying action and failing to escalate the probe. His suspension was seen as a response to alleged lapses in handling the investigation.
SSP Varinder Singh Brar was suspended on May 28 while being posted in Fazilka, following a bribery scandal involving four police officials from the Cyber Crime Police Station. The officials were accused of extorting ₹1 lakh from the family of a minor whose phone had been confiscated. Brar was held responsible for not taking timely action as the supervisory officer. However, a subsequent inquiry cleared him of the accusations, leading to the revocation of his suspension.
Following the revocation, Brar has been directed to report to the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab.
