The government has drawn flak from various organisations for registering a case under Section 295-A against four social activists, including two prominent rationalists, who had commented on Ram Temple. Various organisations, including Association for Democratic Rights and Democratic Teachers Front (DTF), have called it an attack on freedom of expression and demanded cancellation of FIRs.

The cases were registered against Bhupinder Fauzi, Surjit Doudhar and Davinder Rana and Iqbal Dhanaula for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The DTF has condemned the government and demanded scrapping of ‘draconian’ laws like the UAPA, NSA, AFSPA and Section 295-A.

DTF state president Vikram Dev Singh said the continuous strangulation of freedom of speech and expression by the forces at the Centre was suppressing all opposing voices.
