Punjab Khed Mela will begin on August 29
Chandigarh: The Sports Department will organise Punjab Khed Mela, in which competitions in 30 sports events will be held from under-14 to 60-year veteran group. The khed mela, which will be held from block to the state-level, will begin on August 29 (National Sports Day). Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said nearly 3 lakh players would participate. The winners will be awarded with grading certificates, while the state-level winners will also be given cash prizes worth Rs 5 crore and certificates. TNS
Lokpal holds meeting
Chandigarh: Punjab Lokpal Justice Vinod Kumar Sharma on Thursday chaired a meeting with divisional commissioners, Local Government Department and senior officials of the Rural Development and Panchayat Department to eradicate corruption from government offices. During the meeting, he directed to install notice boards within 15 days at all government offices to make people aware of filing a complaint under the Lokpal Act, 1996. TNS
Sanitation staff hold protest
Bathinda: Members of the Safai Karamchari Union staged a protest in front of Bathinda MC office over their “long-standing” demands on Thursday. The protesters raised slogans against the state government and corporation for their alleged indifferent stance towards them. The protesting members demanded that government regularise their services and also revive the old-pension scheme.
