The move comes after BFUHS received complaints against over 100 students accused of using multiple state domicile certificates. Five students were already debarred last week, and the university has sought clarification from the remaining students.

According to Dr Rakesh Gorea, Registrar, BFUHS, submitting false documents, including caste, category, non-creamy layer, sports, or NRI certificates, will result in permanent debarment. Additionally, applying to multiple states for state quota seats will also lead to debarment from Punjab state quota MBBS seats.

The controversy surrounds the ongoing admission process for state quota course seats in 10 medical colleges in Punjab. About 100 students allegedly claimed residency in Punjab to gain admission, despite being residents of other states. This is a significant loss for Punjab students, as state quota seats are reserved for domicile candidates.

A controversy has erupted in Punjab’s ongoing medical admission process after approximately 100 students allegedly claimed residency in the state to secure admission to state quota MBBS course seats. Out of 1,600 MBBS seats, 11 medical colleges offer around 1,250 state quota seats. A domicile certificate is a crucial document proving an individual’s permanent residence in a specific state or Union Territory.

Complaints filed with the BFUHS authorities revealed that many aspirants’ names appeared simultaneously in the merit lists of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat, claiming residency in multiple states.

As per rules, applicants and their parents must submit affidavits stating they do not claim residency benefits in any other state or UT for MBBS admission. Submitting false documents or claiming multiple state residencies will result in severe consequences, including permanent debarment from medical college admissions in Punjab.
