Punjab on high alert ahead of festival season amid ISI threats

Punjab has stepped up security measures in all districts, especially along the international border, ahead of the upcoming festive season, following intelligence inputs indicating attempts to disturb peace in the region.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav disclosed this on Monday after chairing a high-level meeting with senior police officials.

“There are specific intelligence inputs suggesting that after Operation Sindoor, Pakistan’s ISI is desperately trying to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in Punjab. To counter this, we have deployed 57 additional companies, including seven from the Border Security Force (BSF), across seven border districts,” he said.

Speaking to the media, the DGP also highlighted Punjab Police’s recent success in dismantling around 26 terror modules over the past few months, resulting in the arrest of 88 operatives linked to these networks.

He further pointed out that recent floods have caused a surge in cross-border smuggling activities, with narcotics and arms being pushed from Pakistan into Punjab.

The police, in coordination with the BSF, have foiled several trafficking attempts in recent weeks.

“In the latest trend, Pakistan-based anti-national elements are pushing small weapons along with the contraband. Around 78 pistols have been recovered in the recent past,” a senior police officer said.
