Punjab Police Head Constable dies as gun goes off accidentally in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, June 18
A Punjab Police Head Constable, posted in the security of a former Punjab DGP, died after the service weapon he was cleaning went off accidentally at the former DGP’s house in Sector 42 here this afternoon.
The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Raj Singh, a native of Sangrur. He was posted in the security of former DGP Izhar Alam.
The police said the victim was cleaning his SLR on the top floor of the house, where the security stays, when the weapon went off accidentally. The bullet hit the victim on the head. The UT police were informed about the incident, who visited the spot to probe the matter.
The body was shifted to the mortuary at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.
Raj Singh was from the IRB of the Punjab Police. The police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter at the Sector 36 police station. — TNS
