The Punjab Police on Thursday withdrew additional security provided to former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. This was confirmed by DGP Gaurav Yadav. The step was taken on the intervention of the Election Commission following a complaint by the Delhi Police.

As per reports, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had last week recommended to the Delhi Police that it should not allow Punjab Police personnel in Kejriwal’s security in the capital.

DGP Yadav said, “We have flagged our concern on the matter with our Delhi counterparts. We have been regularly sharing inputs about threat perception to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and the former Delhi CM with different agencies.”

Kejriwal enjoys Z-plus security from the Delhi Police, under which he gets around 60 personnel, including personal security officers, two escorts, watchers, armed guards and search-and-frisk staffers.

Earlier this week, the Delhi Police had received an intelligence input from their Punjab counterparts, flagging a potential threat to Kejriwal by pro-Khalistani elements.
