Punjab rail boost: Ferozepur-Delhi Vande Bharat, Mohali-Rajpura link soon
Centre announces two rail projects for Punjab; will connect Malwa region to Chandigarh and Delhi
In a significant infrastructure push for flood-affected Punjab, the Centre on Tuesday announced two major railway projects for the state.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu unveiled the commencement of the long-awaited Mohali–Rajpura rail link, a demand pending for nearly 50 years.
The ministers also announced the launch of a Vande Bharat Express between Ferozepur and New Delhi. The train will operate six days a week, except on Wednesdays.
For the Mohali-Rajpura rail link, the Railways require 54 hectares of land, which the Punjab Government will acquire and hand over to the Centre.
Vaishnaw stated that other projects in Punjab, including the redeveloped Chandigarh railway station, are expected to be operational by 2026-27.
