The decision was taken during a meeting of Pashu Bhalai Board, chaired by Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Gurmeet Singh Khudian here on Friday.

Khudian said the dog owners and pet shops would be registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules 2016. The main objective of the move is to prevent cruelty against animals and promote responsible breeding practices in the state.

The board would monitor and regulate the activities of breeders and pet shops, ensuring that they adhere to standards that promote the health and well-being of the animals, he said. This included ensuring that animals were not subjected to inhumane living conditions and are provided with adequate care, and were not overbred, he said, adding that it would encourage ethical practices in the marketing of pets including dogs and cats.
