Punjab Revenue Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar on Sunday tested positive for coronavirus. Kangar had hosted the flag and inaugurated a few projects at Mansa on Independence Day.

Kangar got tested in Mansa on Saturday after an issue in his throat. He has been in home isolation at his house in Kangar village in Rampura area in the district.

While talking to The Tribune, Gurpreet Singh Kangar said: "I have tested positive but I'm stable and I'm being treated properly, so there is nothing to worry about".

Earlier, two Congress legislators in Punjab and Cabinet Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa had also tested positive for the virus.

After the minister tested positive, panic spread among officials in Mansa district. On Saturday, during the Independence Day function, senior district administration officials and political leaders came in contact with the minister. They are now being tested for the contagion.

The family and staff members of Kangar would also be tested.

Meanwhile, former Malout Member of Legislative Assembly Harpreet Singh Kotbhai also tested positive.

Kotbhai, a leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, said on Sunday: "Since last few days, I was showing symptoms of Covid-19. I went through the tests and the result has come positive. I urge all those who came in contact with me in recent days to take care and get themselves tested".
